Certified Tumor Registrar
Responsible for collecting, analyzing, and computing data on all reportable cancer diagnosis for the registry operations and data standards for the American College of Surgery (ACOS) regarding the nature of cancer patients’ illnesses and the diagnostic procedures and treatments used to deal with them.  This Registrar maintains the data of patients who have been diagnosed with malignant tumors and submits data to the National Center Data Base and Texas State Registry.  He/She must work in a professional manner with physicians, cancer center personnel and other hospital departments.

1. Assigns codes for diagnosing and treating various cancers   
2. Maintain facility and regional database and report tumor registry data to the State and the Commission on Cancer in a complete, accurate, and timely manner
3. Produce reports and presentations including cancer-related statistics as well as explanatory narrations for medical staff and administration / Cancer Committee
4. Analyze cancer survivor rates and identify clinical drug trial candidates
5.Handle special outcome studies, quality measures, quality assurance studies, as well as other standards of the Commission on Cancer.

SUPERVISION
                           Monitors and maintains compliance with department policies and procedures.  Reviews

                           policies and procedures annually and revises as necessary. Maintains appropriate staffing

                           levels and monitors overtime to support corporate and departmental budgets.  Integrates a

                           focus on ensuring patient safety when designing and implementing new processes.
        Distribution:  Supervises pharmacists and technicians in all activities of the pharmacy distribution system (PH/POH).  Develops and implements quality assurance (QA) programs and process improvement (PI) plans for the distribution of pharmacy products and services.

        Purchasing: Oversees the purchasing, receiving and distributing of all pharmaceuticals, IV Solutions and supplies. Responsible for proper storage of all pharmaceuticals and supplies. Supervises and trains purchasing and inventory technicians. Responsible for all aspects of inventory control.   

        Information Technology:  Prioritizes and organizes workflow so that pharmacy automation and computer systems operate effectively and efficiently.  Responsible for maintenance of billing files and audits of the billing process and information systems.  Supervises the data management specialist and pyxis coordinator.

               

        B.      TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION

                Models and promotes teamwork within the department.  Assists and supports team

                members to meet our customer’s needs by ensuring efficient, effective utilization of the

                medication distribution system. Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains

                the interpersonal skills required to lead others. Promotes open communications between

                pharmacy and ancillary departments.                    

       

        C.      CLINICAL AND TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

                Maintains clinical and professional competency, according to department policies, procedures and protocols as appropriate for the age of patient(s) served.

               

        D.      BASIC POLICIES

                Follows, monitors and ensures compliance with organization and department policies                      and procedures and all regulatory agencies.

       
Qualifications

The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

        A.      Education and formal training: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.  NC pharmacist license.

        B.      Work experience: Two years as a hospital pharmacist. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

        C.      Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Demonstrated skills in supervision, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal interactions, organization, time management, and human resources. Exhibits strong leadership skills such as independent judgment, ability to delegate and adaptability.  Must effectively facilitate meetings, accomplish goals through teamwork, supervise department operations and provide support to internal and external customers. Demonstrated knowledge of the legal, regulatory and professional practice standards of Pharmacy. Demonstrated knowledge of Invision and the other pharmacy information systems. Ability to integrate knowledge into daily practice and to handle multiple functions simultaneously. Must be able to remain calm and give direction under stressful circumstances.  Must be able to communicate via telephone. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard and mouse. Must be able to produce written notes, logs, and sign personal initials or name.  Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)’ age.  Has ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.

        D.      Physical Requirements: Majority of time spent standing or walking. Handling of bio-hazardous agents and other chemicals, rotating shifts, conflicting demands, high degree of accuracy, and constant demand to perform multiple functions simultaneously. Bending, stooping, reaching, medium lifting.  Travel may be required.

Clinical Safety Specialist

Position Summary:
The Clinical Safety Specialist will support complaint handling and adverse event activities related to medical devices manufactured and/or distributed by NeoVista Incorporated. This person will be responsible for ensuring that Serious Adverse Event (SAE) and Unexpected Adverse Device Events (UADE) are submitted in a timely manner and are reported consistent with worldwide reporting regulations. This person will review incoming event notifications for reportability and performs follow-ups as required.

- Collect information on adverse events via phone, e-mail or fax
- Summarize information obtained to facilitate accurate data entry.  Prepare a clear and concise narrative of the event.
- Identify clinically significant information missing from initial reports and ensure its collection
- Prepare follow-up correspondence in consultation with medical staff
- Enter domestic adverse event data (from both spontaneous and clinical trial reports).  Codes according to controlled vocabularies.
- Search database to prevent duplicate entries and make necessary corrections as per regular query process.
- Review and query electronic case reports following data entry.
- Participates in weekly team meeting and supports reportability decisions.
- Identifies and properly assesses serious adverse events and new trends in adverse events and advises Project Management accordingly.
- Works in concert with company Data Monitoring Committee.
- Responsible for taking appropriate steps to ensure patient information is maintained and communicated in a confidential manner.
- Conducts literature searches as applicable.
- Leads projects related to retrospective reviews of complaint data.
- Interacts with Project Managers to resolve CAPAs.
- Serves as liaison between all internal and external personnel involved with an adverse event, including, internal departments i.e. Regulatory affairs, legal, clinical, data management
- Perform related duties as requested 
Employee must be cognizant that failure to obtain results or arrive at appropriate decisions puts business at risk of regulatory action from governmental agencies. Assists in FDA and Notified Body inspections.

Physical Requirements:
-  Hospital and R&D environment.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/medical device industry
- Experience in Drug Safety, Pharmacovigilance or Safety Surveillance is preferred Experience with data management and coding
- Familiar with adverse event/experience regulations regarding spontaneous and clinical trial reports
- Computer literacy, familiar with data entry conventions and actions
- Adaptability to changing regulatory environments.
- Must exercise good judgment and operate with large degree of independence regarding routine and non-routine assignments.
- Must be willing to travel (approximately 10% - 20%).
Education/Degree:  Bachelor’s Degree, Registered Nurse (RN) or Pharmacist or similarly certified health professional
Preferred Qualifications, Education and Work Experience:
- Knowledge of FDA regulatory requirements and ICH guidelines.
- Experience working with ophthalmic devices in a surgical environment
- Experience working with radiation devices a plus.
- Working knowledge of current FDA Quality Systems Regulation, ISO 13485:2003, CMDR and the EU Medical Device Directive required.
