Clinical Nurse Manager/ Bremerton/Washington

DEPARTMENT: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
RESPONSIBLE PERSON: Nurse Manager
REPORTS TO: Director, Nursing Practice, Quality & Operations/Chief Nurse
LOCATION: Second floor, Southwest wing, Bremerton Campus.
HOURS OF OPERATION: Primary care services are provided 24 hours a day. Certain
ancillary services are provided during set hours and as needed.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
I. Progressive Care Services are provided for adult patients with acute medical or surgical
diagnoses. Primary inpatient services are to cardiac patients requiring continuous
cardiac monitoring and early recognition of life threatening conditions. Services are
provided through intense observation and appropriate nursing interventions to facilitate
Rule Out MI protocols, pre and post interventional cardiology procedures and pre and
post Open Heart Surgery care. During times of very high Critical Care census, there are
4 beds that are utilized as swing Critical Care beds for lower acuity critical care patients.
II. The patient population served ranges from late adolescence to geriatrics.
III. Patients are assessed through direct cardiac and vital signs monitoring which is
available for all beds, and frequent ongoing physical assessment and extensive medical
staff communication. Appropriate therapeutic interventions are delivered by highly
skilled nursing staff. Patients have access to 24 hour support from pharmacy,
respiratory care, medical imaging and laboratory as indicated by condition. Extensive
discharge planning and patient education is individualized by a multi-disciplinary team
including Social Work, Rehabilitation and nursing specialists such as Wound Care and
Utilization Management. Some nurses on the Progressive Care Unit have advanced
Certification in their area of specialty, as well as competency in the Critical Care area.
IV. Progressive Care Unit receives patients from both the Bremerton and Silverdale
Emergency departments accompanied by appropriate personnel. If patients require
temporary transfer to offsite service areas for diagnostics not provided by the Bremerton
Campus they are sent ACLS with a nurse to accompany. Patients who require transfer
to a higher level of care require physician to physician contact and facility acceptance of
the patient based on bed availability, after which the patient is transported via ACLS air
or ground as ordered by LIP.

Complies statistical reports within the designated timeframe.

Assumes responsibility for cross-checking quality, accuracy and completeness of abstracted material.

Performs reviews of medical records to ensure completed oncology information.

Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.  Works closely with physicians and Pathology.

Assists in answering the telephones, taking accurate messages, routing calls appropriately.

Assists in retrieving charts for physician completion when necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: 
Required:  Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field, consideration of Bachelor’s degree in process in lieu of completed degree.
Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Washington. BLS,ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC certification required.

Preferred:  Master’s degree in relevant field, Business, or Healthcare Administration. CEN preferred.

Experience: 
Required:  Three years total experience or one year of Manager level experience in Emergency Services in an organization of similar size and complexity.  Previous teaching/educator experience and supervisory experience at Charge Nurse level or above.  Three years experience in ED nursing is required. Knowledge of current trends, reimbursement issues, and regulatory requirements as relates to acute/critical care.
 
Preferred: Five years total experience or three years of Manager level experience in Emergency Services or an area of equal/greater size and complexity.  Education experience preferred.

needed to lead a growing department.  Level III, 40,000 visits per year but getting ready for a $6 million expansion of the department.  Currently 21 general beds, 3 Fast Track and one safe room.  Average stay is 2-3 hours.
