Hospital Safety Manager

Responsible for managing compliance with all regulatory requirements and authorities having jurisdiction including but not limited to the Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards, OSHA, NFPA, EPA, Agency for Health Care Administration, CARF, CAP. Skills Required: Must be experienced in the fundamental techniques of anesthesia administration. Must have a thorough knowledge of operating room procedures.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Essential Functions:

1.Organizes, assembles and checks equipment and supplies for anticipated and emergency anesthetics; inspects and tests the anesthesia machine and inspects equipment to ensure it is ready, available and clean.

2.Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served (newborn to geriatric).

3.Identifies, interviews and evaluates patients prior to anesthesia, reassures patients to alleviate anxiety and ensure patient confidence and cooperation. Checks patient records for accuracy.

4.Formulates an anesthetic plan, including: anesthetic agents and techniques for the patient; considers patient status, and type and extent of surgery, interprets lab values, chest x-ray and EKG findings.

5.Communicates and coordinates anesthetic plan, patients status and reaction to the anesthetic with the Anesthesiologist, Surgeon, or Physician in charge.

6.Administers and maintains all types of anesthesia.

7.Performs all techniques applicable to the delivery, maintenance and monitoring of anesthesia, to include direct laryngoscopy, endotracheal intubations an radial artery cannulization.

8.During anesthesia, monitors, charts and interprets vital signs and other appropriate indicators, treating changes appropriately to maintain homeostasis and desired anesthetic level: provides resuscitative care, including; fluid therapy, airway management and ventilation, ensures patient safety through proper operative positioning.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES CONTINUED:
9.At the appropriate time, terminates anesthesia, administers reversal agents as necessary, prepares for and
transports patient to the PACU: transfers care of the patient to one who has been properly trained in post anesthesia care, giving report and remaining until the patients vital signs have been taken and recorded.

10. Participates as a member of the Cardiac Arrest Team and assists in resuscitative efforts when available.

11. Maintains a high level of mandatory continuing education for re-certification and to remain current in all aspects of
anesthesia theory and technique, incorporates into practice generally accepted new techniques and knowledge.

12. Makes recommendations to immediate supervisor concerning the improvement of methods and procedures: works cooperatively with other persons in a team effort to accomplish hospital and departmental objectives.

- Conduct psychosocial assessment of each patient upon admission.

- Work in close collaboration with physicians and other health care personnel in patient evaluation and treatment to further understanding of significant social and emotional factors underlying patient’s health problem.

- Assist patients in completing applications for additional financial coverage, such as Medicaid, and state or special programs; provide follow-up on determinations of eligibility; and document proof of continuing eligibility.

- Maintain current information on all financial assistance programs related to dialysis, including eligibility criteria and changes in benefits and covered services.  Work directly with agencies and provide education and assistance to patients in dealing with agencies.
- Help patient and family through individual or group conferences to understand, accept, and follow medical recommendations associated with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

- Maintain a thorough knowledge of community social agencies and other resources to assist patients and their families to utilize them effectively.

- Prepare initial patient assessment, patient histories, service plans, and monthly progress reports in medical records to reflect all social services provided.  (Include, but not limited to, identification of current problems, current social work goals, actions plans and an evaluation of patient progress)

- Participate in planning for improving health services by interpreting social factors pertinent to development of program

- Assist other personnel through education and direction to support the social services program by learning to effectively deal with psychosocial problems as they arise.

- Maintain continuing education including participation in professional organizations related to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patient care management.

- Participate in staff meetings or in-service education meetings when requested by the Clinic Administrator.

- Social Work Consultant services are obtained through contractual agreement based on an hourly fee, not to exceed a specified number of hours per patient per month for each facility.

Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in Social Work (M.S.W) or equivalent; with specialization in clinical practice from a graduate school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education; Must have minimum of one year in a dialysis unit  or transplantation  program with two years experience as a social worker.
Certificates and Licenses:
LCSW as required by state regulations.
