Director of Quality

In collaboration with the CQO, provides leadership and expertise for hospital quality and clinical improvement projects by developing, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of improvement programs and initiatives.Coordinate and oversee the Quality Improvement staff and day-to-day operations of the departments.Assists committees and teams with data collection, preparation, analysis, and presentations pertaining to performance improvement. Help them design and implement performance improvement projects, as appropriate. Assures that performance improvement programs are carried out in selected clinical areas through the development and implementation of performance improvement projects. Collaborates with the medical staff and management team to implement performance improvement projects. Facilitates teamwork. Interacts and collaborates with the other  Health System Quality Directors, as well as corporate persons responsible for improving organizational performance.Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as requested.Performs supervisory and human resource management responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and procedures. Ensure staff is current with licenses, annual training, etc.

Requirements: Masters degree required, MBA or equivalent preferred RN or equivalent clinical degree, Baldrige examiner or similar examiner training required; extensive knowledge of other Quality Processes will be considered as appropriate (TQM; Lean; Six Sigma; etc.)Accreditation/Certification by a national organization a plus, Additional education and coursework in quality management, performance improvement, such as Six Sigma or “Lean” engineering, are preferredExperience:At least 5 years direct experience as PI/QI Director or equivalent strongly preferred.At least 5 years in a direct patient care, clinical role (RN preferred; RT, PT or other discipline may be considered as appropriate).Must have significant experience in Project Management with demonstrable results. Must have proven track record in leading organizations to top percentile in quality performance. Must have demonstrated track record of successful leadership; must have experience supervising employees and managers. Must have great presentation skills- oral and written. Knowledge and experience of quality infrastructure is needed, including how to develop and implement decision tools, clinical protocols and guidelines, care management programs, and outcome measurement assessments. Needs working knowledge of information technology, including statistical analysis, clinical epidemiology, and medical informatics; understanding of best practices and how to successfully introduce information technology into clinical practice.

Description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager is responsible for direction of clinical services in Labor & Delivery and Maternity. Works closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, Manager of Pediatrics and Medical Staff leadership to develop, implement, and maintain clinical and educational programs that enhance the quality of care and achieve a high level of patient and provider satisfaction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing. BSN preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: R.N. with current New Mexico State license. BLS and other certification as applicable to area. National certification in area of expertise is a plus.

SKILLS: Strong clinical and leadership skills and previous management experience including experience in facilitating interdisciplinary team collaboration. Evidence of such experience should include:

Strong nursing knowledge and clinical skills
Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong analytical skills
Ability to problem solve; ability to appropriately confront issues
Ability to motivate others as individuals and as a team
Ability to plan, organize, direct, and manage the activities of others
Ability to effectively run meetings and to negotiate deadlines
Ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences
Experience in dealing with physicians on an administrative level and ability to work collaboratively with medical staff members and leadership
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical role in women’s services. Two years progressive management experience.
