Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, monitoring, and controlling all activities of the Department of Physical Therapy necessary to endure high quality care within an efficiently and economically operated department in accordance with JCAHO standards and the objectives and goals of the hospital. Under the supervision of the Administration the Director is responsible to the overall management of the Department of Physical Therapy. This includes the direction of Staff Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants and other supportive personnel working in the department 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. The Director is subject to callback and overtime as required by the hospital.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
E 1 Organizes, directs, and manages personnel so as to ensure an efficient, competent and economical department operation that is in accordance with department and hospital policies and JCAHO standards.
E 2 Directs orientation/training programs, approves promotions and transfers, counsels, coaches, disciplines, evaluates performance and recommends salary adjustments for employees in the department.
E 3 Maintains in good operational order the equipment necessary in the provisions of physical therapy services.
E 4 Serves routinely as does the Staff Physical Therapist and PTA’s providing treatment to patients with in the framework of the schedule as needed.
E 5 Develops and administers the annual department budget inclusive of goals and objectives and ensure that all budgeted goals are achieved. Maintains records and reports required to assess the operational activity within the department.

Knowledge/Education
Knowledge of human growth and development necessary for assessment, treatment planning and care of patients appropriate to the patient’s age acquired through formal education course work. Graduate APTA accredited School of Physical Therapy with a State of Mississippi license.
Experience
The Director must have had a least 2 years experience in a management or supervisory position in a Physical Therapy Department in hospital and have a thorough working knowledge of the technical professional, administrative and clinical components of the practice of Physical Therapy.
Licensure, Registration, Certification
Licensure by the State of Mississippi. Basic CPR Certification

Main Activities
1. Responsible for regular inservice programs for all Physical Therapy department staff.
2. Responsible for annual employee evaluations and responds to those evaluations in an appropriate manner.
3. Responsible for monthly staff meetings to address departmental concerns.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Effective written and oral communication skills.
2. Good knowledge of current issues in Physical Therapy.
3. Effective time management skills.
4.Serves routinely as does the Staff Physical Therapist and PTA’s providing treatment to patients with in the framework of the schedule as needed.
Main Activities
1. Responsible for evaluation of all patients.
2. Practices Physical Therapy consistent with the America Physical Therapy Association code of ethics.
3. Responsible for Physical Therapist’s documentation pertaining to patient care and performed in a timely manner.

1. Assessment, and observational skills.
2. Knowledge of American Physical therapy Association Code of Ethics

5. Maintains patient/client confidentiality.
5.As director of the department is responsible for the provision of physical therapy services for the hospital.
Main Activities
1. Attends weekly discharge planning meeting as representative of the Physical Therapy department.
2. Directs patient care on in-patient and out-patient basis.
3. Maintains effective communication with the Medical Director of Physical Therapy, referring physicians and other Directors in the hospital.

6. Develops and administers the annual department budget inclusive of goals and objectives and maintains records and reports required to assesses the operational activity within the department.
Main Activities
1. Responsible for formulating departmental budget annually.
2. Responsible for maintaining the inventory of materials and supplies for the department in a cost effective manner.
3. Responsible for organizing and retaining statistical data which would be pertinent to the departmental budget.
4. Responsible for daily charges for treatments or supplies.
Knowledge and Skills
1. Organizational and reporting skills.
2. Knowledge of charging mechanisms.
