The Director supervises and leads the clinical educators for the Network in developing and delivering education offerings which meet identified needs of the clinical staff, provide flexibility to support different learning styles and schedules, and support competency at the bedside. Departments served are clinical departments, e.g. Nursing units, Respiratory Therapy, Surgery, Laboratory, and Pharmacy. S/he creates partnerships with clinical managers, Quality Management, and Organization & Staff Development to integrate education into the overall plans for patient care, achievement of quality goals, and development of staff skills and professional growth. S/he leads educators in the development of standards for content and consistency between and within facilities. S/he fosters professional development among the clinical educators. S/he keeps abreast of developments and innovations in education. S/he deploys clinical education resources as needed.
1. Oversees the planning, coordination, and development of educational programs to meet the needs of the clinical staff
- Supportive of organizational and nursing strategic plans
- Uses strategies shown to be effective with clinical and adult learners
- Content is evidence based and, where appropriate, consistent with professional and other guidelines
- Sufficient in frequency and variety of format (e.g. simulation, self learning modules, computer based) to meet needs of learners
- Meet regulatory requirements (e.g. ACLS, BLS)
2. Collaborates with clinical management and Organization & Staff Development and others to develop an annual plan for education
- Based on staff and manager needs assessment, organizational initiatives, changes in systems/equipment/processes, changes in guidelines and requirements (e.g. Magnet, CMS core measures)
- Meets regularly with clinical management and leadership (e.g. Shared Leadership) groups to collaborate and identify issues where education may assist with meeting goals or solving problems
3. Provides for consistency and standardization in educational approach throughout the Network
- In conjunction with Organization and Staff Development, develops and implements standards for education materials for the Network
- Facilitates collaboration among the clinical educators to standardize content and materials when appropriate
- Provides resources for preceptor development and development of educational expertise at the staff level
- Regularly audits programs and materials to ensure that standards are being met and provides feedback and suggestions for improvement
4. Ensures competency of educators
- Reviews work periodically
- Obtains feedback from customers and peers
- Provides feedback
- Provides for development of educational and technical skills of educators
Position Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
or
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Master’s degree in Education, Organizational Development or related field
- 7 years experience in education or hospital staff development
- Verified current Arizona or other compact state RN license
- Intermediate Microsoft Windows
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite
Management experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
