Ideal candidate: BSN, 7 years experience in an acute care setting, demonstrates high clinical competency and good interpersonal skills. Former Charge or Assistant Nurse Manager is a good fit. Director is willing to train someone that is bright and eager, someone that wants to learn management.   Hospital plans to do Magnet journey, this person needs to be a mentor, help with morale and take staff from blue collar mentality to nursing as a career mentality.

OR Director: 5 ORs, Annual surgeries: inpatient 1200 year, outpatient 3200, general bread and butter, no neuro and no cardiac. They do have a cath lab but they fly patients out for angios. Budget  35 FTEs of which 15 are RNs. Oversee OR, sterile processing, PACU and pre-admission. Plans on the table to develop an ASC. There’s an interim OR Director in place that is also a CRNA. Somewhat of an old boys club so incoming Director will need to be fair but firm. OR Director will get huge support from administration particularly the CEO. As an anesthesiologist, he knows his way around an OR and will not tolerate any bad behavior by physicians.
BSN required, Masters preferred, previous supervisory experience, 5 years clinical experience. No educator in place so ideal candidate will educate nursing staff and be both a role model and preceptor. Successful candidate traits: value driven, passion for helping others, a giver, team player, supportive, lead by example.

 EXPERIENCE: Five years experience in discipline or specialty. 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse. BLS required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have eye/hand/foot coordination, finger/fine dexterity and be able to handle/grip/squeeze and perform repetitive activity and demonstrate speed movement/velocity. Must be capable of transferring-vertical/horizontal, lifting/carrying greater than 35 pounds with assistance and be able to push/pull, stoop/bend, kneel, walk, sit, crouch/squat, flex/position/twist, stand, hold, restrain, and reach.

SUMMARY: The  Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and managing resources for one to two departments on a twenty-four (24) hour basis. These responsibilities include: budget responsibility; efficient/effective resource utilization; recruitment and effective/efficient management of assigned staff; achieving quality outcomes; performance improvement; monitoring of quality and quantity of services; maintaining positive working relationships with staff and System departments and managers, and purchasing and maintaining equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Holds high degree of clinical expertise in area being managed. Demonstrates skill in leadership management, communication, counseling, problem-solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process. Able to interface effectively with divergent groups. Able to positively represent the practice of professional nursing. Required Length and Type of Experience: Three years experience as a clinical nurse to include one year of management. Required Licensure, Certification or Registry Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Ohio. Required Physical and Environmental Demands Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires some exposure to communicable disease and body fluids. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

Graduate from an approved school of nursing with current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina, possesses ACLS training and membership in AORN preferred.  Has knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing appropriate to the practice setting. Ten or more years recent clinical experience in Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Outpatient Surgical Services as well as Central Processing; including at least five years management experience.  They will emphasis on strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage working relationships.  BSN required, MSN preferred.

Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with requirements of Granville Medical Center.  Participates in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to the management of areas of responsibility.  Processes information on the Center’s Health Information System as required in performing job responsibilities.

 The Nurse Manager has the total responsibility of the management of a specialized area of nursing with twenty-four (24) hour accountability. The major functions include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting for the unit.  The Nurse Manager may assume the functions of the Administrative Supervisor for designated periods of time.  Renders professional nursing care to patients as necessary.

Department administrator.  Establishes and enforces policies, procedures, standards and objectives.  Directs and supervises staff as well as workflow.  Position has budgetary or fiscal accountability. Responsible 24 hours a day for the ongoing effective operation of the assigned Nursing department  by exerting a leadership role which supports the hospital’s mission, vision, goals and objectives, while focusing on the patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and the community as customers.  Ongoing accountability for the continuous assessment, improvement, coordination and integration of the department services and standards of care into the hospital’s primary function. Position is responsible for approving timekeeping, employee evaluation, meeting applicable regulatory standards, approving supply orders and department strategic planning. 

Must be able to utilize independent decision-making skills in a wide variety of situations.  Requires a high degree of accuracy in the performance of varied responsibilities.  Personal computer skills required.  Frequent contact with employees, physicians, customers, community individuals and volunteers. Must be self-motivated to complete work in a timely manner to meet deadlines. Computer skills required.

5. Continuously assesses and improves department’s processes and outcomes by developing appropriate P.I. goals, analyzing outcomes and preparing and submitting required reports through the hospital-wide P.I. Program. Recommends short and long term plans for the department and hospital.
6. Reacts effectively to unplanned circumstances, demands, and challenges facing the department and/or the hospital.
