Graduate of an accredited BS or AS degree program in Health Information Administration or related field of study RHIA or RHIT required.
4 or more years of progressively responsible HIM management experience in an acute care setting. Competitive pay and benefits.
Supported by a staff of more than 40 physicians, Hospital offers a wide spectrum of services including a full service emergency department that is staffed 24 hours a day and a mobile intensive care ambulance service. The hospital’s Intensive Care Unit includes 10 beds (six critical care beds and four step-down beds). Other specialty services include inpatient and outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, pathology, obstetrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive care, and respiratory therapy. Physicians in the outpatient department specialize in gastroenterology, oncology, orthopedics, pulmonology, urology and cardiology. Other outpatient services include sleep studies, nuclear stress testing, pulmonary function testing and a catheterization laboratory. Hospice provides care for terminally ill patients and their families. It is a hospital-based, physician-directed, nurse-coordinated home care approach to the special needs of the terminally ill patient.

JOB TITLE: Director of Health Information Management
JOB SUMMARY: Plans, organizes and directs the provision of Health Information Management Services. Establishes policies, procedures, standards and departmental objectives. Supervises departmental personnel and manages all functions including, but not limited to, birth certificates, release of information, medical record completion/storage/retrieval, coding transcription and utilization review processes.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education:
Graduate of program, at the associate or baccalaureate level for Health Information Management.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills:
1. Skills must include the ability to organize functions and workload for maximum productivity, provide overall direction to department personnel, assit members of the medical staff in carrying out their responsibilities relative to the medical record, adhere to established policies, rules and regulations
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: Three years in hospital Health Information Management, supervisory experience preferred.
2. Technical Training: Computer knowledge/experience using decision-making and statistical analysis software.
Director of HIM, Gulf State: 100+ bed for profit facility in great location; reports to CFO; 12 reporting to position in 3 departments
High School Diploma or GED. Five years experience in HIM and 3 years experience in management required. RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential required. Must possess good problem solving, communication and computer skills
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred

The Health Information Management (HIM) Director implements and supports all corporate HIM activities by providing support to HIM departments at the facility level for department operations, reimbursement opportunitites, and various program implementation. General responsibilities include: performing hospital site visits to assess the efficiency of the HIM departments’ operations, providing orientation and education for HIM staff at newly acquired facilties

EXPERIENCE
Required - Previous supervisory experience. Working knowledge of medical terminology and
anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding.
Preferred - One to two years supervisory experience in a hospital HIM department to include
supervision of coding and transcription.
EDUCATION
Required- Associate degree in Medical Record Technology or Bachelors degree in Medical Record
administration, credentialed Registered Health Information Administrator.
Preferred - BS Degree

Qualifications
Education:
This manager must have an Associate’s Degree and/or AHIMA (RHIT) certification at a minimum. A Bachelor’s Degree and/or AHIMA (RHIA or RHIT) certification is preferred but not required.
Experience:
5 years experience, 3 years in management position, in the Health Information Management field.
Licenses/Certificates:
AHIMA certification (RHIT or RHIA), if applicable.
