Ortho Nurse Manager 

The Ortho/Trauma Nurse Manager provides leadership with responsibility for planning, directing and evaluating the patient care and services provided.  The tasks and responsibilities include:

Manages personnel in the accomplishment of designated goals and the provision of nursing care and services.
Manages the provision of adequate and competent staffing.
Evaluates effectiveness of care in producing desired patient outcomes.
Addresses any issues that affect the desired patient outcomes.
Ensures that age and culturally appropriate care is given.
Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory and JCAHO requirements.
Monitors and adheres to annual hospital operating budget.
Implements cost-effective strategies in staffing and supply management decisions.
Assists staff in providing patient care and services as needed.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.

Required Job Qualifications include:

Current licensure as an RN
Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider.
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.  Master’s Degree will be required by 2013.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience in Ortho/Trauma, Med/Surg Ortho or Ortho/Neuro.
Must have at least 2 years of recent management experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, strong communication skills and leadership abilities.
Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.

The Ortho/Trauma unit is a 29-bed inpatient unit with approximately 40 FTEs.  This individual reports to the Director of Medical/Surgical Services.  The department staff consists of 4 Assistant Nurse Managers, a Nurse Clinician, RNs, Patient Care Techs and Unit Clerks.

Plans, organizes, and coordinates functions and activities of the Skilled Nursing and Oncology Departments, including coordination of programs, orientation, inservice, record keeping employee development and training.  Performs functions listed above utilizing available staff, equipment and financial resources as required by corporate and facility standards.

Accepts 24 hour accountability for areas of responsibility.  Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies impacting nursing care.  Develops, implements, and monitors objectives and goals to intergrate technical and human resources to support organization’s mission.

The Nursing Director is the leader for specified or assigned unit. Responsible for the patient population and assigned nursing and ancillary staff. Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the activities that take place on their assigned unit. Provide direction, support, and guidance to nurses and other staff. Twenty-four hour accountability for assigned unit. 
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (BS required, master’s degree in nursing preferred)
3-5 years clinical experience in specified unit to be directed, preferred
Experience in Quality Improvement

Must possess excellent interpersonal, time-management, and problem solving skills

This position will be responsible for the acute care floors while working collaboratively with the Critical Care and Emergency Room Directors. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the quality of care delivered on those floors according to State, Federal, Joint Commission, and other accrediting agency regulations as well as developing the staff.
