. Position Summary:

Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates nursing care and other activities of assigned unit(s). Areas of oversight include management of nursing staff and ancillary personnel, fiscal management and quality improvement initiatives. Holds 24-hour responsibility for the functioning of the unit(s). Serves as a resource for personnel and other nursing departments as needed. Collaborates with other health professionals to plan, monitor and evaluate client care. This position requires age related competencies. Takes additional call on a rotating basis. Performs all other job duties as assigned.

II. Essential Functions:

* Directs employee performance management (planning, monitoring, development, evaluation, and reward).
* Ensures quality of patient care through compliance of Standards of Care/Standards of Practice.
* Responsible for financial management of unit.
* Coordinates a unit based quality improvement program evidenced by implementing action plans that impact patient outcomes.
* Provides for ongoing educational opportunities for staff members.
* Provides support by acting as a resource to patients, family, staff members, and physicians.
* Holds staff accountable for responsibilities inherent in their position.
* Responsible for overall management of the staffing schedule.
* Collaborates with nursing instructors to maintain/improve quality of student rotations.
* Responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and JCAHO standards, as well as specific Standards of Nursing Practice for assigned unit(s).
* Implements, reviews, interprets and revises all relevant Integris Health and departmental policies and procedures; plan effective communication of changes to staff. Formulates new policies and procedures as needed.
