JOB SUMMARY: Processes specimens including numbering, logging, charging. Embeds specimens in paraffin molds. Performs tissue sectioning with microtome machine and places on slides. Stains and coverslips slides. Performs special staining and special procedures on renal, muscle biopsies, and bone marrows. Performs frozen sections and mohs microsurgery. Performs daily preventative maintenance of equipment. Maintains filing system and records for slides, blocks & tissues. Prepares specimens for shipment to reference labs. May be required to work weekends. Performs other duties as assigned. AGE OF PATIENT POPULATION: X Neonate X Child X Adolescent X Adult X Geriatric EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Graduate of an AMA approved Histotechnology program or certification as a Histotechnologist by ASCP preferred but not required.
